The curators Bisi Silva, Gabriela Salgado and Syrago Tsiara  explain:

“The 2nd Biennale is developed as a suggestion to walk around the centre of Thessaloniki starting from the port and directed to the historical and commercial centre of the city, visiting Ottoman monuments, squares, institutional spots and places of alternative usage.

Actually, it has been designed as an invitation to see once more the complex structures of the contemporary city and its cultural layers under a fresh perspective. It is an ambitious venture that does not aspire to reproduce the stereotypical structures of big international events; it is rather a multidimensional program organised with a view to promote collectiveness as a method of tuition action.

Artists of different generations and acknowledgability coexist through their work in a creative dialogue, on an open communication platform. The works themselves, the quality, maturity and sincerity of their intentions determined our criteria of choice, without any decisions being pre-taken.

Through the artists’ look we attempt to trace down alternative ways to denote the complex contemporary era, to question the impasse created by contemporary crisis and re-define the meaning of artistic action”
