Call of Interest for Volunteers in the 2nd Biennale of Contemporary Art of Thessaloniki

The State Museum of Contemporary Art organizes the 2nd Biennale of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki titled “PRAXIS: Art in Times of Uncertainty”. Artists from around the world will present their works from May until September 2009. The curators of the main program are Mrs. Bisi Silva, Director of the Center of Contemporary Art of Lagos in Nigeria, Mrs. Gabriela Salgado, curator of the Tate Modern in London and Mrs. Syrago Tsiara, Director of the Center of Contemporary Art Thessaloniki.

The particular organization that has put Greece in the international map of Biennale is inspired by the book of Terry Eagleton After Theory and confronts the Praxis - significance that constitutes also the title of second organization, not in contradistinction but in coupling with the theory and as innate element of identity and the social role of the artist.

The central exhibition program of this organization will be framed by crowd of pre-biennale events, parallel exhibition program, planning and application of special educational programs in children and adults, exterior co-productions, special web page and publications.
With the present call of interest, the State Museum of Contemporary Art aims in the creation of a Program of Volunteers, who with their contribution will help to the smooth conduct of 2nd Biennale of Contemporary Art Thessaloniki.

The invitation is addressed mainly in students that their studies have affinity to the contemporary art (Faculties of Good Arts, Philosophical, Architecture, Archaeology), without excluding others who might be interested.

The duration of the Program of Volunteerism is from 10 May until 30 September 2009. The minimal duration of attendance of each volunteer in the program is fixed in the 2 weeks.

The privileges of selected volunteers that will be offered by the State Museum of Contemporary Art will be:

• Certification of voluntary participation in 2nd Biennale of Contemporary Art Thessaloniki, after its completion.
• Catalogues of the central and parallel program.
• Promotional material (bag, poster, budge etc)
• Free entrance in the State Museum of Contemporary Art in Moni Lazariston, but also in the Center of Contemporary Art Thessaloniki, Warehouse B1 in the Harbour up to 30 June 2010.
